My Point of view

One may wonder why I am so against the Indian culture. I would not have been so bothered if these programmes had some substance in them. What do they mainly teach us? People who have watched some of the most popular Hindi serials which ran for a minimum of seven to eight years would remember that the serials mainly revolved around power, money, jealousy, extra-marital affairs and not to forget, the occasional reincarnation!!! Then there was the time travel part. A trend started when serials began to move a few years forward in time. That was the most hilarious part watching the actors look exactly the same as they did twenty years ago. The parents and their children and grandchildren seemed to belong to the same age group. Sadly, people accepted and digested this quite readily. My logic fails to explain how this can be possible.
I fail to understand what could be so interesting about these things?

Government should take steps

The government must also step forward to change this scenario. When the Indian government is not interested to allow our Bangla channels to be aired in India, why is our government allowing Indian channels to be aired in Bangladesh? It is not fair. If they impose some restrictions on these channels, maybe then our local channels would also be more benefited. More people would be interested to watch local programmes, which are often a hundred times better than the programmes that are aired on the Indian channels. Moreover, Bangladeshi people have to be conscious as well. They should be aware of their own rights and values. They should not allow such discrimination to take place. They must not be influenced or guided by some other culture.Government should increase tax on hindi channels which air hindi serials continuously such as STAR PLUS, ZEE TV, SONY, SAHARA CHANNEL etc.

Effect On Our Culture

Cultural imperialism is rather widespread in Bangladesh. Rather than being proud of our own culture and heritage, nowadays, Bangladeshis are more prone to either adopting or blindly following foreign culture. This is common among the younger generation of our country. Earlier, Bangladeshis were greatly influenced by the western culture. Now, the dominance of Indian culture in our society is very much evident with introduction of satellite television in Bangladesh back in the early 90s. Bangladesh took a 360-degree turn from their previous first choice of western culture to a totally new and rather prominent culture.

The media is an effective way of influencing people. But unfortunately, in Bangladesh, always the negative side of all good things seems to influence people the most

Bangladesh Television, which actually aired really good US TV serials, the Bangladeshi people soon began to become addicted to the Indian culture. They ate, drank, walked, talked, shopped, and slept like Indian people. They still do. As days passed, the number of Indian channels began to increase. Now there are more channels than there were channels on a TV set back in the 90s.

The strongest influence of this culture is on children and women. There was a time when teenage boys never watched a single Hindi movie. Nowadays, from child to men all watch Hindi programmes including movies. This success is not for the Bangladeshi culture, but for Indian culture.

Indian culture is eating up the creativity and productivity of many talented Bangladeshi individuals. Rather than expressing their own thoughts and ideas, they prefer to copy the Indian culture. The influence of Indian culture is uncontrolled everywhere. Even Bangladeshi weddings are the victim of hindi serials culture. Now there are Indian rituals involved with our weddings. Earlier when Bangladeshi weddings were limited to two holuds, a wedding and, a reception or maybe engagement ceremonies at times, now some people have wedding ceremonies which last for at least seven to ten days. There is a Sangeet ceremony, a mehendi ceremony, and some more such ceremonies.

The Indian culture has mixed with our blood. Children who have been growing up watching these Hindi programmes fail to understand the true value of our culture. They talk and dress like the Indian TV stars. Tailor shops are continuously getting orders to make dresses worn by some Indian actress. Same goes for beauty salons. Many people visit these places to want to get a haircut or a look like some actress. The once popular Benarasi saree is becoming nearly dead because Bangladeshi women want to buy Indian sarees which are worn by Hindi serial actresses. They do not want to buy these traditional sarees anymore.

Each time the show is being telecast in a new format, with exciting games and different type of emotions. During the Season 1 we’d seen 2 hunks dumping one after another girl from the 20 girl contestants. And in the Season 2 there was equal representation of both the genders.
So, it is in this likes we can hope that the Season 3 to be more of boys and we need to see how the girls will dump them or will it again be a totally new format much different from the last two seasons?
Whatever format it be the basic selection criteria will remain the same and that includes the looks, the attitude, ability to articulate and good command over the language.
Besides winning huge cash as reward the winner will be given a chance to host an MTV episode. Instant recognition and world of opportunities is what one can expect from being part of such a show and that is all the reason why the show gains in popularity every season; there will not be an exception for MTV Splitsvilla Season 3 as well.

Indian Bangla Serials

Besides Hindi serials ,Indian Bangla serials are also famous in our country.Indian Bangla Serials have a quite vast impact to our society. Other language Indian serials are not in our language, but Indian Bangla Serials are in our language. It can create negative impact to our society more then Hindi serials. We are still not counting this as a dangerous element, but it is silently killing us. The main objectives of Indian Bangla Serials are family clash, and most of the viewers are our parents. The point of impact is that, those serials create a bad image in their mind that; they try to compare the serial situation with their own family. It is easily happens because of the language. They find it more familiar then the Hindi or English Serials. Normally the victims become the middle class families of our society. So we have to stop it for ourselves.

Hindi Serials Accessibility

The communication links brought about by the Hindi daily soap is immense. Hindi daily soaps have gained attention all over the world because of easy access to the Hindi channels. Bangladesh has the world’s third largest TV watching audience – not surprising since we do have a large population. But what is more is that in 2009 we expect to have 700 channels on the satellite cable network, and that the reach of this network is upto 75 million households.
Television is obviously the main source of entertainment for these households.
Hindi serials are promoted highly in televisions. Even if the country is facing financial crisis, it will have capital to buy Hindi channels. Star Plus is the mostly watched channel among Bangladeshi women. This is because Star Plus is one of the oldest channels and people are acquainted with it for a long time. Most of the popular shows watched by the women are also from the Star Plus like “Kasauti Zindagi Ki”, “Kumkum”, “Bidaai”, “Kaahin To Hoga” and “Kis Desh Mein Hai Mera Dil”. For fashion, the body of the women actors is exposed unnecessarily. For instance in “Kumkum” and “Maayka” (Bride’s Home) most of the characters wear transparent saree to show the blouse design.Women who watch these serials always crave for thse designs and fashion. This desire has boosted the fashion world. Many Indian dresses have entered in our culture. As a result people are losing their traditional values. Watching daily soap is one of the ways of passing time for women, but too much of watching is unhealthy. It might reduce the capacity to learn.

Addiction To Hindi serials

The addiction level of watching Hindi serials is much among the women. They forget to eat while watching these Hindi serials. They can pass a day without eating but they can not avoid Hindi serials in a day. Portraying gorgeous women in daily soaps is one of the strategies adopted by the television industries in India to engross the viewers. Not only in India, but the number of viewers are rising up in UK, USA, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Due to increasing number of Indian channels and television networks, people have acquainted themselves with different kinds of daily operas. There are many channels which show daily operas all of them are impractical. Hindi channels are easy to access. Amongst many Hindi channels five famous channels telecast soap operas. Star Plus, Zee TV, Sony, Colors and Star One are popular among Bangladeshi people. Most popularly watched daily soaps are- “Kumkum” (Devotion of a Girl to Her Spouse), “Kasauti Zindagi Ki” and “Dulhan” (Bride), “Dil Mill Gaye” (When Two Heart Met) and “Bidaai” (Farewell). Star Plus dominates every entertainment genre”. However, other channels like Star One and Star Utsav are also popular .Here are a funny picture of a family. It shows the addiction of this family towards Hindi serials.

Why People Watch Serials

These daily soaps show stories which are related to people’s life. Most of the soaps share common themes like family relationships, romance, humor, and conflicts. However, to make each serial exclusive the director chooses unique clothing and accessories. Daily soaps are deliver messages regarding culture, family relations, struggles of life and mythology through stories, but instead of the story, the audience is fascinated by the dresses, actors and the jewelries.
Main reasons women like Hindi serials for passing leisure time, for stories, for fashion and looking at actors whatever the reason might be, women said that they could not ignore accessories and clothing of the characters.
Media has highly overvalued Hindi daily soaps. Currently, each serial is shown three times a day. Due its high publicity people are bound to watch them. For many, Hindi serials have become daily chores. Girls who have watched Hindi serials said that serials are not informative. They also admitted that watching soaps is a complete waste of time; still they cannot abstain from it because watching televisions has become a routine. Daily soap operas seem very entertaining as they hit women’s dreams and aspirations, but in reality they take the viewers far away from the real world. We should draw a line between reality and illusion.

Funny Sides

In most of the serials it shows a person to be romantic in the first place but after some times there is a twist and it changes the whole story by showing the same character. The most hated thing in these serials; they always try to focus on how money, power, and reputation can be earned by choosing the wrong path. The funniest thing they show a person who dies in few serials back returns after sometimes to bring a twist in the story. Is it really possible to return after death life? These are just so funny. The most important thing to mention about these serials is that there are too many advertisements are given in it like the costumes, jewelries, looks of the actor/actress. When they are sleeping or cooking they are wearing heavy make up and jewelries.

Destroying Feelings of Women

Television has become an inseparable part of our life. Especially the daily soap Hindi serials are so much popular; as a result every one of us watches one or other TV serial at least once in a day. It is mostly popular among the housewives not only in India also in Bangladesh as well. Almost 90% of these women desperately wait to watch these serials in between their daily chores and these serials are related to our everyday lives. These serials present their happiness and sorrows of simple middle class families and show the condition of middle class families. Since most of theses serials show the family relationship and also show the problem of the struggling women but they try to show the fake picture which is actually destroying the feelings and image of the women.

Most Viewed Serials

CID - Long running detective show on Sony
There have been many detective shows on TV, with some specific character. CID is the most viewed detective serial in Bangladesh. The people in the show are dedicated, but not individually brilliant; instead they use modern science, forensics and the power of the law (interrogations, authorized searches, etc) to find clues that will help them to solve the crime. Not only women but also men watch this serial.

Laali – the Snake Charmer (Agle janam mohe bitiya hi kijo on Zee Tv)
This is the most peculiar serial I have ever seen. Anyway I don’t know why women like this serial. This is so boring and there is nothing in this serial which can make ie interesting. It is a story about a girl name Laali. And the story is based on her.
Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii
Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii is Asia's 2nd Most Watched and Awarded show till present date[1Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii' is the story of theAgarwal family and mainly revolves around the favourite bahu of the family, Parvati (Saakshi Tanvar).kahaani ghar ghar kii is aired on star plus days a week.Bangladeshi women like this serial very much. They can forget their dinner but they can’t forget watching this serial.
Kyunki saans bhi kabhibahu thi

Because a Mother-in-law was once a Daughter-in-law too)is Asia's #1 Most Watched and Awarded show till present date[1 produced by Balaji Telefilms, that revolves around the lives of the fictitious Virani family. The show went off-air in November 2008 due to its falling popularity. However, the show had been the longest running serial in Indian Television. It has gained much popularity in Bangladesh.

Aahat

Aahat is a horror serial. Whenever I watch this serial I laugh.. it is nothing but wastage of time. Particular episodes are shown in Aagat. There is no connection with previous serial. One of my male friends watch this serial. I always mock at him.

Dil Mil Gaye
Dil Mil Gaye is totally a youth oriented serial not the same dramatic "sas-bahu" one.It have romance, emotions, some action, relations and most beautiful is its a love story containing the life of the medical intern's. Both men and women watch this serial.

impact on wardrobe

Most of the Hindi daily soaps are thirty minutes long. In that short duration the audience can taste every part of entertainment- comedy, romance, and action. Along with entertainment they also get to see a range of styles. Hindi daily soaps have brought a revolution in the dressing style of common people. The styles used by the actors come to the market within a week or less. This quick accessibility motivates the viewers to purchase the outfits and accessories used by their favorite celebrity. When the new fashion enters the market the price is high, but with time the price reduces gradually .This has affected the sale rate of sarees and salwar kameez. Most of the women in Old Dhaka imitate the Indian culture. They try to wear sharees like Tulsi or Parvati. They like to wear jewelleries like hindi serials actors. For example a new dress has come to market naming Gypsies/ Anarkali. It is a tunic shaped salwar kameez. It is tight till the breast bone and from the waist it is extends like an umbrella. This is mostly worn by Riddhima, the actress of Dil Mill Gaye serial. Girls in Bangladesh now a days buy Anarkali dress. It is am impact of hindi serials. Having a role model from the serial is good, but one should not follow their every style and trend blindly. Moreover, people are losing traditional values and beliefs by imitating Hindi daily soaps. In most of the serials we watched, the married women wore Sindoor, in a stylish way. According to the Hindu culture the women should wear Sindoor in the forehead as it is considered sacred, but the women in daily soaps do not put it in the forehead. It has creating a bad impact on our Hindu women.

People's verdict

People in Bangladesh are fed up with these hindi serials. The boys specially are deprived of watching television. Women watch these hindi serials all time. So the boys can not watch sports or movies.Their verdict after watching these serials are horrible.Let's see

Shohel Shahariyar Sumon- Jara bangali hoye hindi seriar dhake tara daser jatir shotru. Ader k bulldojar diye moilar maje nikkhap korte hobe.

Rayhan Saki- YA THIS THING IS JUST ONLY LIKE A CHEWING GUM AS FAR YOU WANNA MAKE IT LONG U CAN.
SO DONT CALL THIS A SERIAL ITS JUST ONLY A CHEWING GUM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Faiz Ahmed- Hindi Serials R always Disgusting 2 Me...There Is Nothing 2 Learn 4m The Serial...The main Cause Of All The Nasty Work in our Country is "Hindi Serial"...By Watching Hindi Serials Our Girls & Women Have Lost Their Shame...This is Why They R Not So Happy In Their Practical Life...

Mohib Islam- Ya we should stop it. My personal experience about it is pain ful. and a bad experience. for the effect of this my family get distroyed.....ami vukto vugi.....pls come together to prevent it.

Khatib Rubel- firstly Hindi serials are bullshit work of frustated individuals ...... I think they are now overdoing everything from acting, dressing, script to even camerawork of repeated exposure from different angles and GOD save us from those stupid noise played again and again.... STUPID.... STUPID and ... STUPID

They are urging us to prevent this hindi serials from our culture. Because it is harmful for our culture. They are expressing their feelings towards hindi serials.

The K serials and Bangladeshi women

People in the media in India would do anything to keep their trps high. A valid proof of this would be all the serials of today especially the ones concerning women. Whether they are about female infanticide like Lado or Agle Janam... or even Balika Vadhu, the more the tears the better it is for the channel trps.
"Anything for money" the slogan has some side effects too. While people watch these serials due to their emotional content, they also absorb these values subconsciously. Hence, you find the modern K serials actually trying to emotionally suppress their daughter in laws. Or even in today's world the birth of a daughter becomes a nightmare for the parents. Who cares! What’s more, I heard a couple telling a doctor that they can get the test done despite it being illegal since it was done in a particular serial! Is this what the serials are aiming for? Women in Old Dhaka like these serials a lot. They sit in front of the television set and watch these funny serials till midnight. It is creating a bad impact on Bangladeshi women as well as Indian women. We are not concerned about Indian women. At first I think we should change our attitude. We have to change our self.
